PNLL Remembers Umpire Carl Azevedo
December 22, 2005

We are sad to hear about the passing of long-time PNLL umpire Carl Azevedo last Saturday. Carl umpired for several leagues in District 57, but most of his recent games were at the Sports Park for PNLL. He also traveled outside of District 57 boundaries during All Star competitions at the request of top District Officials. Although Carl did not umpire last season due to health difficulties, he often asked fellow umpires how the league was doing. His dedication to PNLL was always apparent, but perhaps never more than during PNLL's District 57 Little League Championship in 2004. Carl attended every PNLL game of that championship tournament, sometimes turning down requests to umpire so he could root for the kids he umpired, instructed and cared about. He was always the first to remind fellow umpires that Little League Baseball is for the kids; good umpires must never detract from the kid's enjoyment. Carl enjoyed the games too - fellow umpires often accused Carl of picking out "team moms" to chat with between innings. Outside of baseball, Carl was an avid goose hunter, adopting the email CAgooseman. We are certain that Carl will be truly missed by everyone lucky enough to have met him.
